Petrov Vodkin - Russian and Soviet artist, writer, teacher. In his works you can often see the theme of motherhood, which is revealed in two keys - either in the context of holiness, the exaltation of the duty of the mother, which, fulfilling its purpose, becomes equal to the saints, or in the context of naturalness and simplicity, part of life and holy everyday life.
Also in his paintings, you can often see children - grabbed with a brush vividly, as if in the midst of a continuing moment, they seem ready to tear themselves away and run away from the canvas the next moment, leaving only the chair or chair on which they were sitting before.
“Girl with a doll” is one of such paintings. It depicts Tatyana Pileckaya, the famous actress of Soviet cinema, during her childhood, when no one had yet thought that such a future awaits her. Her parents were friends with Petrov-Vodkin - their cottages were located in the neighborhood, they maintained good relations.
Once the children of summer residents arranged an impromptu concert - they read poetry, sang songs, danced - and Petrov-Vodkin, impressed by the girl’s natural grace, invited her to pose for a portrait. She was then seven years old.
They are located on the veranda. It was difficult for Tate to sit, and the artist sometimes allowed her to turn around and play with the doll - the father gave the girl a doll. When it was required to observe complete immobility, Tata examined the stained-glass window on the veranda, looking into different glasses.
That summer remained in the picture in warm colors, in a red light on the boards of the veranda. The girl is sitting on a chair, wary, bored, looking to the side - they would soon have let go! - Hugs a doll, which, like many dolls, stupidly smiles from under the hands of the hostess.
On Tata is a white lace dress and she looks from the picture, as if alive. Now he will nod and, having conveniently arranged the doll, he will run away from the veranda, laughing loudly.
