Myasoedov Grigory Grigoryevich wrote this work in 1872. This painting became the hallmark of the artist-Wanderer. The artist relied on this work on local materials. Post-reform Russia appears before the viewer.

Local governments have just begun to form in the form of zemstvos. Peasants were also chosen here. But they had a low property qualification, so there were very few of them. The plot is extremely simple. The artist decided to display the inconsistency of the provisions, according to social status.

A quiet provincial town is shown. In the foreground is the building of the Zemstvo Council. Everything seems simple. The whole house is not shown, but only in the picture is the image of the light wall of the Zemstvo council. Peasant deputies decided to have lunch. Stuffy rooms do not appeal to peasants, and the proximity to the "noble" representatives of the Zemstvo does not satisfy them. So they decided to dine al fresco.

The artist portrayed someone already having lunch and dormant, and someone who continues a meager meal, with a simple village provisions. Simple food. Someone has dry bread. Another has bread and salt and a bunch of green onions.

It can be seen that in the building of the zemstvo council they also finished lunch according to the actions of the waiter, who rearranges the dishes and the wine bottles. This is where the contrast of poverty and wealth is observed. The main characters of the picture - the peasants, the artist gave characteristic features. One is cunning, sharpness. Another is a feeling of genuine spiritual nobility. The third is insult.

Here is the presence of a Nekrasov work about who lives in Russia well. But all the heroes of the picture think about the same thing - they understand that justice cannot be achieved here. The master is not going to conclude on an objective scene, he pushes his viewers to this.
