Famous by the end of the XIX century, the artist - Salvador Dali painted many wonderful paintings, but not all of them have such an amazing story as the painting "Pearl", written in 1981. Her story is this: one rich enough to order a painting, the nobleman decided to make a present to his wife and asked Salvador Dali to paint it. What the artist agreed to, and the woman went to Paris, in his studio. She was dressed in a very elegant dress, almost white, in the fashion of that time, very magnificent and decorated with a mass of frills. A precious necklace flaunted her neck, in which only one wonderful pearl attracted her eyes.
After the picture was painted, they gave it to the customer, who was immensely satisfied, but only the spot on the pearl upset him, which, in his opinion, did not harmonize with the whole portrait. He sent a message to Dali asking to remove such inconvenience, to which he was refused and offered to arm himself with a magnifying glass. The offended customer nevertheless took a magnifying glass, and was delighted because he saw that this was not a stain at all, but the image of the artist himself painting a portrait of the lady, whom the painting was intended. So the canvas got its name - "Pearl". The picture depicts a close-up of the body of a woman, slightly overweight, in a light magnificent dress, but instead of the lady's head, which actually should complete the neck, a huge pure pearl is depicted. So Dali saw a woman who came to him. The background of the picture is darkened, and as if divided into lilac and red tones, maybe so that the light emanating from the pearl is more visible. Undoubtedly, the “Pearl” is one of Dali’s best works, written in the style of surrealism, as well as one of his penultimate creations, since, due to the subsequent death of his beloved wife, Dali will stop painting and shut himself up until his own death in 1989 year.
